This booklet contains methodological materials that help children distinguish between situations when a short or long vowel should be used. This is a big problem in the modern environment, where different languages with different sound pronunciation traditions are used simultaneously. The methods proposed by the author are based on dividing a word into syllables. At the same time, as required by the new subject standards, the author has designed them in such a way as to develop self-guided learning skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, creativity and entrepreneurship, skills to cooperate and participate. Using pictures, children learn to divide words into syllables and determine the length of syllables. Then, using syllable models and pictures as a means of self-control, they consolidate the acquired skills. The material will be useful for speech therapists in preschool, primary and elementary schools, as well as Latvian language teachers. It can also be used by parents to work additionally with their child according to the instructions of a speech therapist.
